Florida State vs. Georgia Tech Preview | Latest recruiting info and more

Another historic season is ahead for State of FloridaOn Wednesday, ESPN's Greg McElroy announced his expectations for the Seminoles in the 2024 season.

“I think things are starting very difficult here in Week 0,” McElroy said“I know it is against Georgia Tech Institute. I know this is a neutral site. I think this is a remarkably challenging game. They also have a difficult game against the G5 team in Memphis.

“But these are not games that will have a major impact on whether or not they win the ACC title. The games I'm focusing on for Florida State could determine whether they repeat as conference champions – at SMU on September 28th. This is a big event. Clemson comes to them. This game could really be decisive… And they go to Miamiwhere they will probably be slight favorites.”

Florida State doesn’t have to be perfect to win College Football Playoff this season. For the first time, the CFP will be a 12-team format, with the Power Four conference champions filling the top four spots in the bracket.

The top-ranked team in the Group of Five will also automatically receive a spot in the CFP. However, after these five selections, the selection committee will award at-large spots to the other top-ranked teams.

McElroy believes Florida State will have plenty of opportunities to prove itself given the challenging schedule in 2024.

“What about the Notre-Dame game?” McElroy said. “This has nothing to do with the ACC Championship, but everything to do with their ranking when they compete as an at-large team in the College Football Playoff.

“But I look at it and I think there are three or four games in the ACC that are really challenging. Ultimately, I think Florida State is probably a 6-2 football team in the ACC. I think they're 9-3 overall, which would put them in a top position.”

If a 9-3 regular season record is all it takes to secure a shot at the ACC Championship and a spot in the CFP, then Florida State fans should be very optimistic about the Seminoles' chances. For the past two seasons, head coach Mike Norvell has led the program to a 22-2 regular season record.

Now Norvell is looking to lead the Seminoles to even greater heights. On Saturday, FSU will face Georgia Tech at 12:00 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
