Mumbai, August 24: The number of victims of the tragic bus accident in Tanahun district of Nepal has now risen to 41. Maharashtra Minister Girish Mahajan confirmed the number of victims during a press conference in Mumbai on Saturday, according to a media report. The bus, which was carrying mainly Indian tourists from Maharashtra, plunged into a gorge of the Marsyangdi river in the Ambukhereni area of ​​Tanahun district of Nepal on Friday.

At the press conference, Mahajan said that the state government is in constant touch with the Nepal government and the Nepali embassy in Delhi to coordinate relief efforts. “41 people have lost their lives in Nepal after falling into the river. We have contacted the embassy in Delhi and the Nepali army has taken 12 people to the hospital,” the Republic quoted Minister Mahajan as saying at the press conference. Maharashtra State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) director Lahu Mali said the bodies of the victims and injured would be brought to India from Maharajganj district on the Uttar Pradesh-Nepal border on Saturday afternoon.

From there, they will be taken by road to Gorakhpur airport, a distance of about 4 hours. Arrangements are also being made for them to travel to Nashik airport and then to Jalgaon by road. Since it is not possible to transport so many bodies and injured by a commercial flight, the Maharashtra government has written to the Indian Air Force (IAF) requesting that a special flight be arranged.

The special flight is expected to fly from Gorakhpur to Nashik – the nearest airport to Jalgaon – and the state government will bear all the expenses. On Friday, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had already said that “some devotees from Maharashtra” were killed in the bus accident and several others were injured.
