Tragic accident on Highway 401 in Lakeshore amid traffic delay following earlier accident

Details of the incident

A fatal multi-vehicle crash occurred on Highway 401 in Lakeshore, Ontario on Friday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 10:22 a.m. in the westbound lanes between Gracey Side Road and Comber Side Road. Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene.

The collision involved two separate accidents. The second incident involved two semi-trailers and a pickup truck. The incident was caused by a traffic jam during the investigation of the first.

Information about the victim

Tragically, the driver of one of the semi-trailers was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

• The driver of the pickup truck suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
• The second tractor-trailer driver remained uninjured and on site.

Investigation

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating both collisions.

• The first collision, which resulted in minor injuries, remains under investigation. Further details are expected to be released at a later date.
• The westbound lanes of Highway 401 will remain closed at Exit 56 (County Road 42) during the ongoing investigation.
