Brett Alan Brasher, 52, of Wichita Falls was serving a five-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty in February 2023 to violating the civil rights of an incarcerated person, soliciting prostitution and three counts of abuse of office.

Brasher was returned to prison in July 2024 after Wichita County Sheriff's Office officials said weapons were found in his River Road apartment, a violation of his parole.

Brasher appeared again in 30th District Court on Friday morning, August 23, 2024, where he pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a firearm and was sentenced to four years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice facility.

Because of Brasher's guilty plea, the suspended sentences for the five charges to which he pleaded guilty in 2023 were revoked.

Brasher was sentenced to four years in prison for violating the civil rights of an inmate, 12 months in state prison for soliciting abuse of public contracts, and one year in the Wichita County Jail for each count of abuse of office. All sentences will run concurrently with his weapons charge.

Brasher was first hired as a deputy in 2011. He was suspended in October 2021 following an investigation into allegations by female inmates of unwanted sexual advances and touching.

Brasher's first arrest came in February 2022 after he was charged with a total of ten counts of violating the civil rights of an incarcerated person or abuse of office. He was scheduled to stand trial before being arrested two more times for soliciting prostitution and three more counts of abuse of office.

Following Brasher's plea and sentencing on Friday, August 23, 30th District Court Judge Jeff McKnight had strong farewell words for the former deputy sheriff.

“You were wearing a badge and you were wearing a gun. You held people's lives in your hands,” Judge McKnight said. “You are a disgrace to law enforcement. You are a disgrace to every single person who wears a uniform… You are going exactly where you need to go.”
