Victorville man arrested in connection with fatal hit-and-run accident

Investigators arrested a Victorville man early Friday in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash earlier this week, officials said.

David Anthony Campo, 42, was arrested shortly after midnight and booked on suspicion of hit-and-run, according to San Bernardino County sheriff's officials and police records.

The fatal collision occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday along Mesa View Road, north of Olivine Road, authorities said at the time.

A late-model blue Nissan 350Z struck a pedestrian and drove away without stopping to render aid, the sheriff's department said in a written statement.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, but was soon pronounced dead.

The investigation led officers to identify Campo as the suspected driver, officials said.

According to booking records, he was released on bail that same day pending trial.

The identity of the pedestrian, initially described only as male, could not be determined Friday because his family has not yet been notified, sheriff's officials said. His age and place of residence were also not released.
