Lie detector test begins on main accused Sanjay Roy, ex-director Sandip Ghosh and five others

All the documents related to the alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata were handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on the orders of the court after former principal Sandip Ghosh appeared at the office of the Special Crime Branch of the CBI in Kolkata.

Former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Dr Sandip Ghosh, comes to the CBI office for questioning

Eighteen doctors, nurses and staff of RG Kar Medical College, who were falsely accused on social media of being “missing” since August 9, the day the PGT doctor was found raped and murdered, were actually assisting both the Kolkata Police and the CBI in the investigation and helped reconstruct the sequence of events.

Roy reportedly burst into tears when the judge asked him why he agreed to a polygraph test. “I haven't committed a crime. I'm accused of something. Maybe the polygraph test will prove that,” he told the judge.

The CBI's remand application filed in the Sealdah court on Friday seeking the judicial remand of Sanjay Roy, the accused in the brutal attack and murder of a 31-year-old PGT at RG Kar Medical College on August 9, makes no mention of “gang rape” or involvement of multiple persons.

Roy's public defenders Sourav Bandyopadhyay and Kabita Sarkar said the remand affidavit only mentioned the charges of rape and murder; Roy was the only accused so far.

The CBI's FIR includes IPC sections 64 and 103(1), which deal with rape (punishable with 10 years to life imprisonment) and murder (punishable with life imprisonment or the death penalty). The agency may change the charges as the investigation progresses.

The court allowed the CBI's request and remanded Roy in custody till September 6. He was sent to the Presidential Jail, where he is being kept in solitary confinement under constant surveillance.

Suspecting multiple people's involvement in the incident, the victim's parents expressed their fears of gang rape to the CBI and filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court demanding a court-monitored probe. Stay tuned to TOI for the latest updates:
