Portillo's, famous for Chicago hot dogs, ready for construction in Fort Worth, Arlington

Portillo's, the Chicago-based chain known for hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches, has filed a new application to begin work on a location in north Fort Worth while construction continues on a restaurant in Arlington.

Portillo's has officially applied to begin construction on a $790,000 location at 2491 North Tarrant Parkway, west of Interstate 35W.

This opening follows the planned fall opening of Portillo's at 4200 S. Cooper St. in Arlington. Bulldozers are moving earth at the site off Interstate 20 near The Parks shopping center.

The first Portillo's in Texas opened in January amid long lines at 5752 Grandscape Blvd., The Colony.

None of the Tarrant County locations have been officially announced by Portillo's.

Portillo's Beef Bus food truck made stops in Arlington and other areas in September, serving Italian beef sandwiches, Chicago-style hot dogs with celery salt and sport peppers, Polish sausages and Maxwell Street sausages.

Portillo's began as a hot dog stand in Villa Park, Illinois in 1963 but has grown into a major restaurant chain.

The new restaurant in The Colony features a 180-seat dining room and 80 seats on two terraces.
