Man killed in police-involved shooting in Edmond on Friday night

One person was killed in a police-involved shooting overnight in Edmond.

Edmond police responded to a call for a welfare check at a residence near the intersection of East Second Street and Bryant Avenue around 11 p.m. Friday.

Police said they were called to the area where they found a person on a balcony. No further details about the incident were released. Edmond police said officers were not injured.

The incident in Edmond followed a police officer-involved shooting in Mustang that also resulted in a welfare or health check.

A Mustang police officer shot and killed a man during a wellness check Thursday night around 7:30 p.m. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said the man, identified as Juan Barbosa, 41, refused to follow verbal commands and approached the officer near Mustang Road and SW 89.

According to an OSBI press release, officers on scene attempted to save the man's life, but the man died.

Mustang police have asked the OSBI for assistance in the investigation. Authorities have not yet released any details about the shooting. News9 reported that the man's family said he was unarmed and was having a mental breakdown.
