Arrest in connection with the murder at Harbor House in Claymont

New Castle County police have made an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting at Harbor House Apartments in Claymont Friday morning.

New Castle County Police were called to the 100 block of Harbor Drive after a shooting was reported on the morning of August 23. A 35-year-old man was found shot and taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Residents near the scene reported hearing a series of gunshots around 10:10 a.m. At around 12:30 p.m., SWAT and patrol officers were observed leading at least three people in handcuffs out of the cordoned-off area.

The New Castle County Police Department announced that the shooting victim was identified as Devontre Taylor of Wilmington.

Following their investigation, detectives from the Major Crimes Division and Evidence Investigation Division identified the suspect as 27-year-old Michael Toombs of Claymont, who was in police custody. He was arraigned on August 23 at New Castle County Sheriff's Office and charged with six counts, including first-degree murder and first-degree robbery.

Toombs was remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $950,000 cash bail.
