Baltimore Ravens running back taken off the field due to injury

Baltimore Ravens running back Owen Wright was carted off the field in the second quarter of Saturday's final preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.

Wright, 25, had a good preseason for the Ravens. He rushed for 33 yards on just seven carries in the first preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, and while his yardage wasn't as impressive last week against the Atlanta Falcons, he did manage a nice touchdown as a pass receiver to get the offense going.

Before his elimination on Saturday, he had managed 10 yards on three runs.

The Maryland native earned a spot on the Ravens' practice squad last year thanks to a strong preseason performance. This season, he's competing for the No. 3 running back position behind Derrick Henry and Justice Hill, and another strong preseason may have given him the edge. His biggest competition for that position is freshman Rasheen Ali, a fifth-round pick from Marshall who has been dealing with an issue since the Eagles game.

Despite all this, Wright was excited about the opportunity to play for his hometown team.

“I'm just in a fortunate position, honestly,” Wright said after the Falcons game. “I really don't think about it, I just go out and play football, play Ravens football. I want to compete at a high level, and whatever happens, happens at the end of the day. Whether I'm competing as a running back or on special teams, anything I can do to help this team get better and win, I'm going to do it.”

Unfortunately, if Wright's injury is even remotely serious, his chances of making the roster just plummeted. It would be an extremely disappointing end to his strong preseason, but that's the unfortunate reality of the NFL sometimes.
