2 men hospitalized in critical condition after shooting in Hattiesburg on Friday evening

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi (WDAM) – Two men were hospitalized in critical condition following a shooting late Friday night in Hattiesburg.

Around 11 p.m. Friday, Hattiesburg police responded to the 3100 block of Hardy Street to investigate a report of a shooting, HPD said.

According to a press release from the HPD Public Information Office, when officers arrived on scene they discovered a destroyed car with two men inside, both of whom were being treated by paramedics.

HPD said officers were notified by emergency responders that the two victims had been shot and were being transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Both men are in critical condition, HPD said.

Hattiesburg police said they have identified suspects and are pursuing all leads related to the incident.

The incident first came to public attention when the University of Southern Mississippi sent an “Eagle Alert” to students, faculty and staff stating that a shooting at the intersection of Hardy Street and 31st Avenue was being investigated by HPD.

Recipients of the alert were also informed that “there is currently no threat to the campus.”

HPD said that, according to preliminary findings, Friday's shooting was an isolated incident and there was no immediate danger to the public.
