Woman armed with machete arrested after argument at home

Petaluma police have arrested a woman who allegedly carried a machete while chasing a person during an argument.

Officers responded to a report of an argument just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the 700 block of Marin Way, Petaluma police said Saturday. While they were en route, the victim reported that the woman, identified as 50-year-old Heather Doyle of Petaluma, armed herself with a machete and chased the victim into a room, where she barricaded herself.

Doyle attempted to assault the victim after entering the room but did not make contact, police said. She then left the room, but police were unsure if she was still in the house, officials said.

Officers escorted the victim and an uninvolved resident to safety while they searched for Doyle, police said, determining she may have fled to Novato.

Petaluma officers asked Novato police to rush to a location where Doyle might have fled, and Novato officers tracked down her vehicle and took her into custody, police said.

Petaluma police officers arrested Doyle and booked her into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. No injuries were reported and the machete was recovered, police said.
