Man arrested after Dothan woman suspected of murder

DOTHAN, Alabama (WTVY) – Records show Dothan police arrested a North Carolina man on felony charges early Saturday morning.

Jail records show Phillip Lee McAdoo of High Point was arrested at 3:36 a.m. and immediately held without bail.

The victim was identified by Dothan Police as 35-year-old Shannette Yvonne Colbert.

Officers received a call Saturday about a shooting in the 2700 block of East Cottonwood Road. When they arrived at the scene, they found several juveniles inside the home. One of them showed the officer Colbert, who was lying on the ground with a gunshot wound.

Investigators said Colbert and McAdoo were already in a relationship and had a child together. An argument broke out between the two and McAdoo pulled out a gun and shot Colbert multiple times.

Despite life-saving efforts by officers on scene, Colbert succumbed to her injuries.

Children in the home gave officers the suspect's description and investigators noticed McAdoo leaving the area. They initiated a traffic stop and took him into custody.

McAdoo is being held in the Houston County Jail and faces the death penalty for capital crimes.
