Fatal crash in Jeanerette claims life of New Iberia man – KQKI News

Iberia Parish – On August 23, 2024, shortly after 7:00 p.m., a single-vehicle car crash occurred on LA Highway 87 near LSU Bridge Road in Jeanerette. The crash claimed the life of 45-year-old Felix Richard of New Iberia.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Richard was traveling south on LA Highway 87 in a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet veered off the road to the right, entered a ditch, struck an embankment and finally struck a tree.

Richard, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Standard toxicological samples were taken for analysis in all three accidents. Investigations are ongoing.

Overnight, five people in the Acadiana area lost their lives and their families were forever changed by preventable car accidents. Police want to remind drivers that while not all crashes can be survived, wearing a seatbelt dramatically reduces the risk of injury or death in an accident. In addition, careless, inattentive and reckless driving remains a leading cause of accidents in our state. Simple precautions such as having all passengers wear seatbelts and obeying all traffic laws and speed limits will increase safety on the road.
