Police investigate fatal shooting of 15-year-old in Minneapolis

A 15-year-old girl is dead after a shooting in Minneapolis on Saturday afternoon.

On Saturday at 1:50 p.m., officers responded to a shooting at a home in the 3400 block of Logan Avenue North. Police found a 15-year-old girl with at least one life-threatening gunshot wound.

Police provided medical assistance until the girl was taken to North Memorial, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

When officers arrived at the scene, two adults and two teenagers were in the house.

“I am deeply concerned about the gun death of a 15-year-old girl,” said Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara. “Whether this was a horrific accident that highlights the need for proper gun care and storage, or whether this is somehow related to the rise in teen violence, the loss of a 15-year-old girl is an unacceptable tragedy. Our investigators are working diligently to determine exactly what happened. Together with our law enforcement and community partners, we will continue to do everything we can to completely end the number of lives forever impacted by guns.”

Investigators are trying to determine what led to the shooting. No arrests have been made.

The Hennepin County Coroner will release the 15-year-old's name at a later date.
