MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old girl in north Minneapolis.

The shooting occurred just before 2 p.m. at a home near 34th and Logan Avenue North. Officers arrived at the scene to find the girl suffering from at least one life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers immediately rendered medical aid until the girl was transported to North Memorial Health.

Unfortunately, she died in the hospital.

Her older sister, Shaquila Brown, is now trying to come to terms with the terrible news.

“I'm going to miss her laugh, I'm going to miss her coming into my room,” said older sister Shaquila Brown. “I'm going to miss everything, I'm going to miss her being there.”

“She is the sweetest person in the whole world,” Brown said. “She was so excited about 10th grade.”

According to police, two adults and two other teenagers were in the house when officers arrived.

“I am deeply troubled by the gunshot death of a 15-year-old girl,” Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara said. “Whether this was a horrific accident that highlights the need for proper gun care and storage, or whether this is somehow related to the rise in teen violence, the loss of a 15-year-old girl is an unacceptable tragedy. Our investigators are working diligently to determine exactly what happened.”

Police are investigating the shooting.
