Fans are stunned when Floyd Mayweather apparently fires the referee in the middle of the fight in his rematch against John Angelo Gotti III

  • Last night the rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Angelo Gotti III took place
  • Neither fighter won because it was an exhibition fight.
  • Fans were shocked when Mayweather had the referee thrown out of the fight

The highly anticipated rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and John Angelo Gotti III took place last night.

However, it wasn't what many expected. There were no wow moments or knockouts from either fighter and the majority of the two-minute rounds seemed to pass without a single notable blow being landed.

However, there was one moment in the fight that left fans completely baffled when Mayweather had the referee thrown out of the match in the second round of the fight. The unusual moment came after Gotti complained that Mayweather hit him with a “rabbit punch” – which is a blow to the back of the head.

However, in this case, Mayweather did not throw such a punch, but rather a long hook that wrapped around Gotti's head. Much to Mayweather's dismay, the referee stopped the fight to give Gotti a moment to recover.

For a split second, fans feared that there would be a repeat of the last fight, but instead Mayweather told the referee to “get out of the way.” To the horror of many, he was replaced and a new third man entered the ring.

One fan wrote on the social media platform “X”: “I've never seen anything like this. Mayweather fired the referee in the middle of the fight.”

While a second person commented: “Mayweather fires the ref mid-fight. That was crazy to watch lol. That grin at the end…”

A third person felt compelled to say that the moment was simply pure madness.

“CHAOS: The referee issues a warning to Floyd Mayweather for his punch behind the head in round 2. Mayweather disagrees and tells the referee to “get out of the way”. The referee is then replaced by a new one for the remaining rounds.”

Other fans also compared the moment to what one would see in the WWE.

One fan wrote: “Another #MayweatherGotti fight, another clown show moment.”

“This time the referee was fired and replaced mid-fight. I really hope no one has to pay for this glorified WWE nonsense in the boxing ring,” they added.

A second person commented:

“Floyd Mayweather ejected the referee,” followed by a laughing emoji and “All WWE Edition.”

After the new referee entered the ring, the fight continued without further interruptions.

Since the fight was an exhibition match, neither fighter seemed eager to please the crowd or assert their dominance.

By the sixth round, the crowd began to boo the fight quite loudly, unimpressed as Mayweather was content to simply attack Gotti's body with the odd uppercut.

While Gotti happily accepted it, the crowd at Mayweather's post-fight interview continued to boo as he spoke.
