Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. John Gotti III Results: Winner and Reaction

The exhibition fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and John Gotti III on Saturday night in Mexico City was exactly what was expected. The fight consisted of eight, largely uneventful two-minute rounds, with Mayweather dominating his inexperienced opponents en route to victory.

There were no setbacks or wow moments.

The most notable moment came in the second round when Mayweather had the referee thrown out of the fight. The original referee was a little too involved in the proceedings, especially with what he felt were punches to the back of the head.

Mayweather was disgusted by the reprimand, and it seemed like we were heading for another bizarre situation similar to the one after their first fight. Instead, Mayweather yelled at the referee to “get out of the way,” and suddenly the third man in the ring was replaced.

To all spectators, it seemed as if Mayweather had fired him on the spot.

Other current professionals like Shakur Stevenson reacted to the referee’s sending off:

A new referee stopped the fight, but that had nothing to do with the flow or the finish. Mayweather was content to fire occasional jabs and uppercuts to Gotti's body.

None of his punches seemed to hurt Gotti, but he looked even more amateurish in the rematch than in the first. The crowd booed the fight quite loudly from the sixth round onwards and even tried to drown out Mayweather during his post-fight interview.

After the fight, Mayweather appeared to dispel a rumor that he would face Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. in his next exhibition fight. The Mexican icon was in attendance and hugged Mayweather as he paid his respects.

If Chavez Sr. isn't the next Mayweather, and it looks like he'll continue to compete on these shows, who's next on the all-time best list? It might be wise to look outside of boxing for someone who has a certain level of name recognition and some combat sports experience, but has spent little time in the boxing ring.

Jake Paul has modeled his matchmaking around Mayweather, which has proven to be a lucrative strategy. Mayweather has fought YouTubers in the past. Would he take on another influencer like Cash Nasty, Duke Dennis, Troydan, or maybe even consider a rematch with Conor McGregor?

Whatever Mayweather decides to do, you can bet it has the potential for another big payday.

In the supporting act, Mayweather's protégé and top boxing talent Curmel Moton made short work of Victor Vazquez. Moton scored the KO victory in just 55 seconds of the first round.

Here's a look at his work:

Moton improved his professional record to 5-0 with four knockouts. He is only 18, so it is unclear how long it will be before he faces tougher competition.

However, there are some similarities between Moton's game and Gervonta Davis due to his size and power. We probably won't see him back on the main event scene for another three years, but Moton is one to keep an eye on.
