Gotti, 31, who had a 5-1 record in MMA fights before switching to boxing, is the grandson of John Gotti, the head of the Gambino crime family who died in prison in 2002.

Former world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather defeated John Gotti III, the grandson of the late New York crime boss, on Saturday in an exhibition fight that left the audience in Mexico City unimpressed.

Mayweather, 47, retired from boxing in 2017 after going undefeated through 50 fights, but he continues to compete in fights that do not count toward his career record.

Gotti, 31, who had a 5-1 record in MMA fights before switching to boxing, is the grandson of John Gotti, the head of the Gambino crime family who died in prison in 2002.

Mayweather has also fought against reality TV stars and YouTube fighters in some of his exhibition matches.

He dominated Gotti from start to finish, despite confusion when the bell failed to sound to end the round and the referee left the ring mid-fight. The eight-round fight consisted of two-minute rounds with two-minute rest breaks.

Gotti was the first to enter the ring in an arena filled with over 22,000 spectators and showed little effort during the fight, thereby provoking the contempt of the audience.

Mayweather came back in the first round with right punches to Gotti's head, but Gotti limited himself to containing the punishment.

After two minutes, there was a moment of confusion because the bell did not ring and the fight continued until complaints were heard from Gotti's corner.

Further confusion arose in the second round when Panamanian referee Hector Afu left the ring after a banned punch by Mayweather, apparently angry at Mayweather's behavior.

Mexican referee Alfredo Uruzquieta then took over.

Mayweather easily escaped Gotti in the third round and released his rival, whom he held on the ropes.

It was not until the fourth round that Gotti landed some heavy blows on Mayweather's body, but they had little effect.

Towards the end of the round, the crowd began to boo, expressing their displeasure at Gotti's lack of willingness to fight.

In the sixth and seventh rounds, Mayweather rained down punches on Gotti, who barely defended himself, which angered fans even more.

Mayweather cornered Gotti in the final round, but his opponent held on until the final bell.

Since the fight was an exhibition match, there was no official winner.

Mayweather and Gotti fought their first exhibition fight in South Florida in June 2023, which was stopped in the sixth round because insults were exchanged between the two fighters, leading to a brawl in the ring.
