10-year-old dead after multi-vehicle crash in Plainville – NBC Boston

A child was killed in a car accident in Plainville, Massachusetts, in which several people were injured on Saturday evening.

Massachusetts State Police responded to the crash at the intersection of Routes 1 and 495 shortly after 10 p.m.

Authorities said they were watching the Kenny Chesney concert at Gillette Stadium before arriving at the scene.

According to police, 42-year-old Michael Escolas of Oxford was speeding south on Route 1 in a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was allegedly stolen from the Gillette Stadium parking lot.

Escolas then ran a red light into a Nissan Altima carrying a couple and their four children. They were all taken to the hospital, where the 10-year-old was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

According to police, Escolas was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and taken to a nearby hospital.

Due to the accident, the intersection was closed for several hours before it was reopened.

State police expressed their condolences to the family but did not reveal their identities.

The crash is currently being investigated.
