Man killed, woman injured in shooting in Durham on Avondale Drive

On Sunday, a man was killed and a woman injured in a shooting near shops. Avondale Drive and North Roxboro Street.

At about 4:20 a.m., an off-duty Durham police officer heard gunshots in the 2200 block of Avondale Drive, police said.

The officer, who was working at a nearby store, found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds in a nearby parking lot.

The emergency services took both to a local hospital. The man was pronounced dead, the woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Avondale Drive was closed from Howard Street to North Roxboro Street due to a police investigation.

Police said the investigation was still ongoing, but the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident.
