Manchester United injury update: News and return dates for Rasmus Hojlund, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw

Manchester United travel to face rivals Manchester City in a major Premier League derby this weekend.

Although Erik ten Hag's team returned to winning ways in the FA Cup against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening, the performance was not particularly convincing.

However, it was a relief to see match-winner Casemiro in action after he was substituted during the dramatic league defeat to Fulham on Saturday.

A welcome relief was also the fact that, after numerous doubts, ten Hag was also able to rely on Bruno Fernandes, Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans.

Nevertheless, United continues to struggle with injury problems ahead of the Manchester derby.

With that in mind, here’s a look at Man Utd’s recent injuries.

Rasmus Hojlund

Star striker Rasmus Hojlund will definitely miss the game as he has sustained a muscle injury and is expected to be out until after the international break next month.

“It's a small injury that will last two to three weeks,” Ten Hag told reporters. “That's the risk when you play and train at high intensity. It's not a big injury, but he'll have to wait two to three weeks now.”

Possible return date: March 2024

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire has returned to form this season, so it is a huge blow that he could miss the derby. He has been ruled out for the Forest game, but no further update on his fitness has been given.

Lukas Schröder

Luke Shaw's injury problems have proven frustrating all season and he will now be out for a “long period of time” with a muscle problem.

Possible return date: Unknown

Lisandro Martinez

Key defender Lisandro Martinez has also struggled with injury problems this season and is expected to be out until April.

Ten Hag said: “This is a big setback for Licha. He is very disappointed, but he is a fighter and he will come back, he will come back stronger. We believe he will be back by the end of the season.”

Possible return date: May 2024

Mason Mountain

Mason Mount has had a difficult time since leaving Chelsea and is not expected back for the derby.

Possible return date: Unknown

Tyrell Malacia

Tyrell Malacia has not played for United this season as he has had to undergo two operations for a knee injury.

Possible return date: April 2024

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Ten Hag confirmed in mid-February that Aaron Wan-Bissaka was still “a few weeks” away from returning.

Possible return date: March/April 2024

Anthony Martial

There are doubts as to whether Anthony Martial will ever play for the club again. His contract expires this summer and a return date following groin surgery has not yet been set.
