Tragic capsizing off the coast of Yemen claims thirteen lives

Thirteen people have tragically lost their lives and 14 others are still missing after a boat capsized off the coast of Yemen on Tuesday, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said in a statement released on Sunday.

The ill-fated vessel, carrying 25 Ethiopian nationals and two Yemenis, was sailing near Yemen's Taiz province, IOM officials confirmed. The dead, 11 men and two women, were found on the shores of the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a key sea route for world trade.

The search for the missing people, including the Yemeni captain and his assistant, is still ongoing. The cause of the sinking remains unknown. This incident is reminiscent of a similar tragedy in July, when a boat carrying at least 45 refugees capsized in the same region and only four survived. Since 2014, the IOM has recorded 2,082 deaths and disappearances of migrants along this dangerous migration route.
