Some disappointing news about the release date of the third season of “House Of The Dragon”

Nowadays, new seasons of TV shows take forever to come out, but something has changed in recent years that is starting to make it unbearable. Now, with season 3 of House of the Dragon, it's happening again.

According to showrunner Ryan Condal, it was announced that filming for season 3 of House of the Dragon will not begin until “early 2025.” From this we can deduce a possible release date.

After season 1 ended in October 2022, House of the Dragon season 2 began filming in April 2023. It was eventually released in June 2024. That's 14 months later for the filming portion. So, using the same estimate, if we assume “early 2025” is, say, February at the earliest, that would mean April 2026, 14 months later. If “early” instead means, say, April 2024, that's June 2026, a full two years after season 2 airs.

This hasn't been the case, as was the case with Game of Thrones, which hit the nail on the head. everyone year with 10-episode seasons for the majority of its run. Check out this table:

  • Season 1 release date – April 17, 2011
  • Season 2 – April 1, 2012
  • Season 3 – March 31, 2013
  • Season 4 – April 6, 2014
  • Season 5 – April 12, 2015
  • Season 6 – April 24, 2016
  • Season 7 – July 16, 2017
  • Season 8 – April 14, 2019

It only got a little longer at the very end with fewer episodes and bigger battles, but by the time season 7 came out, there was exactly a year's gap between seasons, and I'd say that's one of the reasons the show had such a cultural impact. The only show I can think of today that does something similar is The Bear, which comes out on time every year. House of the Dragon, on the other hand, will air three seasons with fewer episodes in the time it would have taken Game of Thrones to air 5-6 seasons of 10 episodes. That's ridiculous.

Hollywood production is slowing down as costs skyrocket and schedules drag on forever. This does not even apply to big-budget series, which are practically all The first series now run every 18 to 24 months, some even longer. It's no wonder fans are constantly frustrated with these release dates, and House of the Dragon is no exception. It might take even longer if there are bigger battles and more work needed to bring them to life. And yet, I don't think anyone has complained about the production quality of the first six seasons of Game of Thrones, have they?
