Synagogue in Los Angeles vandalized for the third time in recent months

A synagogue in Los Angeles was vandalized for the third time in recent months when its front door was damaged and a mezuzah was ripped from its frame, said Rivky Netkin, vice president of Kahal Ahavas Yisroel. The Jerusalem Post.

Netkin suspected that the vandal had damaged the door during his attempted break-in. When his attempt failed, he turned his attention to the mezuzah, a container of religious texts that is traditionally attached to the doorframes of Jewish homes and institutions.

The vandal ripped the mezuzah from the doorframe. Surveillance footage shows him attempting to break it before throwing it on the floor.

Previous incidents of vandalism

The Kahal Ahavas Yisroel synagogue was damaged on July 25 when at least two vandals smashed two windows. Surveillance camera footage shows one of the suspects filming the crime and fleeing the scene laughing.

The July 25 incident occurred just days after the church completed repairs to a window that was smashed in an act of vandalism on May 23. The broken windows had to be boarded up after both incidents.

After the first incident, the community was unsure whether the attack was anti-Semitic in nature, but subsequent attacks raised suspicions that the motives were anti-Semitic.
