A man who died in a fiery accident in Woodbridge, Virginia, had poured gasoline into the passenger compartment of his car before it caught fire, police said.

A man who died in a fiery accident in Woodbridge, Virginia, had poured gasoline into the passenger compartment of his car before it caught fire, according to Prince William County police.

The accident occurred on Friday shortly before 7 p.m. at the intersection of Old Bridge Road and Occoquan Road.

The crash caused an explosion that shook surrounding buildings, police said.

When officers arrived, the silver sedan was engulfed in flames. The driver died at the scene of the accident.

According to police, preliminary investigations show that the driver had poured gasoline into the cabin immediately before the accident, which led to the major fire.

The identity of the driver has yet to be disclosed.
