Evansville man charged with drunk driving, nearly causing head-on collision

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – A 38-year-old man was arrested overnight in Evansville for drunk driving.

This is according to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office, which said a woman called 911 around 10 p.m. to report a possible drunk driver near Heinlein and Petersburg Road.

The emergency caller reportedly told officers that she had to pull over to the shoulder of the road to avoid a gray car that was coming head-on toward her.

According to an affidavit, the caller saw the car swerve across the street and drive into a nearby yard.

Officers stopped the vehicle on Highway 41 and identified the driver as Samuel E. Acevedo. His license plate was matched to the caller's.

The sheriff's office said Acevedo failed several roadside sobriety tests, tested 0.193 on a breathalyzer test and admitted to drinking six beers.

Samuel E. Acevedo was arrested and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on charges of driving under the influence (endangerment), driving without a license, and driving with an ACE of 0.15 or more.
