Miami Dolphins release former New York Jets quarterback

Former New York Jets quarterback Mike White was a starter a few times during his time with the team. In fact, he seemed to be an above-average backup quarterback and someone the Jets players loved.

In four starts in the 2022 season, White threw for 1,192 yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions. That wasn't anything special, but for New York, it was much better than what they had.

White landed with the Miami Dolphins as a backup in 2023. Perhaps he believed he would have a chance to be a starter at some point during the year due to Tua Tagovailoa's injury history, but Tagovailoa stayed healthy and was one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL.

White, a native Floridian, was slated to become the Dolphins' second quarterback at the start of the preseason, but lost his job to Skylar Thompson.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the former Jets quarterback was subsequently released.

White should find a team looking for a second or third quarterback, and with the season still two weeks away, he has time to do just that.

Miami could have potentially released him to give him the opportunity to play elsewhere since there was no need for him there.

A reunion with New York doesn't make much sense since the Jets' quarterback staff is at capacity, but if someone gets injured, the front office could still try to bring in a familiar face.

However, New York has other more pressing tasks to deal with besides finding a replacement quarterback.

If White were signed by another team, he would play for his third team in as many seasons.
