CPO visits site of tragic road accident near Girari Bridge, Kahuta Road

RAWALPINDI, Aug 25 (APP): Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani on Sunday visited the site of the tragic road accident that occurred near Girari Bridge on Kahuta Road after a passenger ship en route to Palandri, Azad Kashmir went out of control and plunged into a deep ditch, killing 25 people.

The CPO expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic accident and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families, the Rawalpindi Police spokesperson said in a press release.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Benish Fatima and SDPO Kahuta informed the CPO about the incident and the ongoing rescue operation.

According to initial reports, the traffic accident was caused by excessive speed and a technical defect in the vehicle, he said.

The accident occurred on Kahuta Palandri Road, a highway that is currently under construction in several sections.

Speaking on the occasion, City Police Commissioner Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani stressed the need for preventive measures to avoid such accidents in future.

The CPO announced plans to work closely with the district administration and the traffic department to improve road safety.

To control speeding, the CPO said traffic police will monitor the travel times of Public Service Vehicles (PSVs).

In addition, traffic signs would be put up to guide drivers on the highway, he added.

“Protecting citizens is our top priority and we will use all available resources to ensure their safety,” he concluded.
