A man who was hospitalized after police say he fatally stabbed another man during a stabbing in Phoenix last week has been jailed on suspicion of first-degree murder.

Phoenix police responded to a report of a stabbing near 16th Street and Indian School Road around 8 p.m. on August 19 and found a man with a stab wound. The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was later identified as Efren Partida, 34.

When homicide detectives arrived on scene, they learned that another man had been taken to a nearby hospital with stab wounds and was in critical but stable condition. Investigators linked that man to the first fight, police said.

According to initial information from Phoenix police, the two men got into an argument near a supermarket, with both pulling out knives and stabbing each other.

Sergeant Brian Bower, a Phoenix police spokesman, said Sunday that police arrested the surviving man, Christopher Rhodd, 36, and booked him into jail on suspicion of murder. It was not immediately clear when Rhodd's next court date would be.
