One day after the murder of the teenage sisters, the police arrest the stepfather

Bengaluru: A day after two school-going sisters were found murdered in their Bengaluru home, police have arrested their stepfather.

Srushti (14) and Soniya (16) were murdered in their house in Amruthahalli in northeast Bengaluru on Saturday evening while their mother Anita was at work.

Anita's second husband, Mohan, was missing since Saturday afternoon and his phone was also switched off, making him the prime suspect.

Sajeeth VJ, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East), formed three police teams to track down the suspect.

A senior police officer overseeing the investigation said Mohan was picked up from Yeshwantpur railway station around 5.30 pm on Sunday and that arrest procedures have been completed. He will be produced before the court on Monday.

“He wanted to board a train to his hometown, but our police team managed to track him down and arrest him before he could board the train,” the officer said. DH.

According to the officer, Mohan appeared traumatized and could not be questioned further. However, the police plan to take him into custody for 10 days to solve the mystery surrounding the murder.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Anita said Mohan had recently become suspicious of the girls and often forbade them from talking to other people.

Police said it was too early to draw conclusions, but they would take the mother's statement into account when questioning the suspect.

The killings occurred around 3.30 p.m. on Saturday near Amruthahalli in northeast Bengaluru and were reported to the police four hours later.

The family had moved to Amruthahalli from another part of Bengaluru two years ago.

Anita hails from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh and has been living with Mohan for nine years after separating from her first husband. Mohan hails from Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
