Tragic act of the family: son found

A family is heartbroken after a toddler was found dead on a rural property after going missing.

Two-year-old Luka Huddle was pulled from a dam on a property in Lara, near Geelong, on Tuesday evening.

His body was found after he disappeared at 5.30pm.

According to the Geelong Advertiser, the little boy had just helped his mother Karin Huddle and grandmother Sharon Huddle “uncover” their horses when he ran off.

It is believed that Luka ran away with the family puppy named Poppy.

The two women desperately searched the property before calling the police.

During the search, Poppy emerged covered from the water-covered bushes, causing even more panic.

“I asked where the dam was because I saw that she was wet,” said Karin.

“We think dogs come out to let us know that something has gone wrong.”

Luka was later found unconscious by the police.

Sharon said she had to fight her way through the ranks of police officers to see her grandson's body; she wanted to say goodbye.

“That’s how cold he was when I hugged my grandson.”

A donation page has been set up to support the family.

On the site, Luka was described as a “beautiful, cheeky” little boy.

“Luka was always full of life and energy.

“We last had a family reunion with our extended family at Karin, Luka and Sharon's home in May 2024. I was lucky enough to spend four nights at their home and share the joy and love of this beautiful little family.”

The police are investigating and will prepare a report for the coroner.
