Philadelphia police investigate multiple incidents across the city overnight


PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania. – Authorities are investigating several serious incidents that occurred throughout Philadelphia on Sunday, August 25, 2024, including a death, vandalism, a stabbing and a shooting.

West Philadelphia Death Investigation

At approximately 9:47 a.m., police discovered a decomposed body hanging from a tree in the woods near the 1400 block of N 66th Street in West Philadelphia. Medic 41 arrived on the scene and pronounced the subject dead at 9:50 a.m. The scene remains secured while Southwest Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of the death. No further details have been released.

Vandalism on East Monmouth Street

Police responded to reports of vandalism in the 2600 block of East Monmouth Street in the Kensington neighborhood on Sunday morning. Several homes and vehicles were sprayed with red paint in what appeared to be a targeted act of vandalism. The properties affected include five homes on the following blocks: 29XX Edgemont Street, 26XX Birch Street, 26XX E Ann Street, and two addresses on 29XX Edgemont Street. In addition, three vehicles were also sprayed. The East Detective Division is investigating the incident, but no suspects have been identified yet.

Stabbing at 1 Franklin Town Blvd

A 27-year-old man was critically injured after being stabbed in the lower back at approximately 7:55 a.m. in the vestibule of 1 Franklin Town Blvd in the Spring Garden neighborhood. Police transported the victim to Jefferson Center City Hospital, where he is currently in critical condition. The scene is currently being guarded by investigators and the weapon used in the stabbing has been recovered. A male suspect is in custody and Central Detectives are continuing their investigation.

Shooting on Hart Lane

In another violent incident, a 20-year-old man was shot multiple times on the highway in the 5XX block of Hart Lane in the Harrowgate neighborhood at approximately 4:24 a.m. The victim was transported to Temple University Hospital by Medic 8 and is reported to be in stable condition. The scene is still active, but no arrests have been made and no weapons have been recovered. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Philadelphia Police Department's Shooting Investigations Group at 215-686-8270 or call or text the PPD's tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477). Tipsters can remain anonymous.

All incidents are currently under active investigation and Philadelphia Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.

  • Delaware State Police investigate shooting at Felton's residence

    FELTON, Delaware. — Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred late Saturday night at a residence in Felton. The incident occurred on August 24, 2024 at approximately 11:10 p.m.

    Officers responded to a home in the 10,000 block of South Dupont Highway after receiving reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found an unknown suspect had fired multiple shots into the occupied home. An adult was inside the home at the time of the shooting, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.

    The Delaware State Troop 3 Criminal Investigation Unit is leading the investigation and is currently working to identify the suspect(s) involved.

  • Road closure of Winslow Road in Monroe Township announced for the coming weeks

    MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ — Monroe Township Police have announced the closure of Winslow Road/W. Fleming Pike between the county line and Route 73 for road work for the next two weeks. The closure will be Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. the first week and Tuesday through Friday the second week.

    Monroe Township residents are advised to use Winslow Road for local traffic only, as the road is closed on the Winslow Township side. Despite the closure, Exit 33 of the Atlantic City Expressway remains open. However, motorists exiting the Expressway must turn west (right) at the top of the ramp, as the road is impassable between the exit and Route 73 near Mr. Bills.

    The Monroe Township Police Department has advised residents and commuters to plan their routes accordingly during the closure period. Any questions or concerns regarding the road work can be directed to the department at 856-728-9800, extension 546.
