Shooting in Chicago: Pastor Corey Brooks' godson Christion Tucker, 21, shot in a vehicle on South Washtenaw Avenue in Chicago Lawn

CHICAGO (WLS) — A man was shot and killed in a vehicle on Chicago's south side Saturday night, police said.

Police said the shooting occurred shortly after 7:15 p.m. in the 7200 block of South Washtenaw Avenue in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood.

A 21-year-old man was in a vehicle when he was shot multiple times, police said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chicago pastor Brooks spoke to ABC7 and identified the victim as his godson Christion Tucker.

It's a loss that hits home for Brooks, who has spent years in the city trying to help residents and stop gun violence like this.

He said his 21-year-old godson was a good kid who played college sports, and now the family is desperately searching for answers about his death.

“This is her 21-year-old son…great kid…student…athlete…college…just a difficult situation,” Brooks said.

Tucker was waiting in his car nearby when he was shot and later pronounced dead, Brooks said. That's when the pastor got a call about his godson.

“When it happens to you and when it happens to people close to you, you realize there's still a lot of work to be done,” Brooks said. “We're going to do everything we can to help this family.”

Brooks said Tucker was a young man with a bright future ahead of him as he played basketball at a junior college and was preparing to transfer to a four-year university.

The family is now offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.

“He was just waiting in a car and someone took his life, but he wasn't a bad boy,” Brooks said. “He wasn't in a gang… he wasn't a boy who ran around and got into mischief… he was a really, really good boy.”

Police said the circumstances of the shooting were still under investigation and no one had been arrested yet.
