Teenager killed in tragic boating accident off Long Beach Island

HARVEY CEDARS – A “tragic boating accident” occurred Sunday in the waters surrounding this borough on Long Beach Island, according to city police.

No concrete details were initially announced.

“As the investigation is still in its early stages, we ask that you keep the family and community in your prayers,” police said.

NBC10 in Philadelphia reported Sunday evening, citing an unnamed source, that a 16-year-old girl was killed when she was accidentally run over by a boat driven by her father.

Several people on board were treated for trauma, the NBC News partner's source said.

Bryan Huntenburg, a spokesman for the Ocean County District Attorney's Office, referred all inquiries about the incident to the New Jersey State Police.

There was no immediate response from the state police on Sunday evening.
