🚨 Columbus Crew shocks LAFC in the last minute to win the Leagues Cup

The Columbus Crew crowned themselves Leagues Cup winners thanks to two goals in injury time, surprising LAFC in a rematch of the 2023 MLS Cup final.

Goalscorers: Hernández 43', 90+2' Russell-Rowe 90+4'; Giroud 57'

LAFC appeared scared for the first 45 minutes as Columbus dominated possession and created most of the chances in front of goal.

Just when the Crew needed a decisive moment to score in their superior position, talisman Cucho Hernández answered the challenge, darted into the box and headed the ball home with a superb finish for the first goal.

The guests seemed to have received a wake-up call from coach Steve Cherundolo during the break and started the second half at full steam.

After Columbus' star striker played in the first half, it was Olivier Giroud's turn to do the same for LAFC. In his first appearance for the club, the Frenchman headed in the equalizer, proving he was on the scene before the 60th minute.

The battle between the star strikers continued until the final minutes, but this time it was Cucho Hernández who once again came out on top. A cross to the far post seemed to surprise Hugo Lloris, as the ball missed its target and ended up in the net in injury time.

But the Crew weren't done there: Just minutes later, they caught LAFC advancing and scored a third goal, claiming their second trophy in as many years.

Both sides are now turning their attention back to the MLS and it is quite possible that they will meet again in the MLS Cup final in December.
