“Throw them away or you’ll go to jail”

Norfolk police stations are set to implement an amnesty for deadly weapons ahead of a change in the law that could result in prison sentences for owners.

As of September 24, possession of zombie-style knives and machetes will be illegal.

This is because they are added to the list of dangerous items that are already banned, including zombie knives, butterfly knives, samurai swords and thrusting daggers.

Before the new ban comes into force, owners of these weapons are urged to hand them in legally.

Otherwise, anyone caught with a zombie knife or machete will face prison time.

Police Minister Diana Johnson said: “Too many people have access to weapons that can have devastating, life-changing consequences. There is no legitimate reason for a weapon of this type to be lying around in our homes or on our streets.”

The amnesty will be implemented at police stations for four weeks, from August 26 to September 23.

Individuals should first contact their local police station for advice on packing and bringing any weapons to the station.
