Drake Maye of the Patriots: Is fighting for a starting spot

Maye completed 13 of 20 passes for 126 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 20-10 loss to the Commanders. He added three runs for 17 yards.

Maye followed Jacoby Brissett (shoulder) into the game but took over on the second offensive play. He got off to a rocky start with two aborted snaps in his first six games, but he picked himself up and made a number of impressive throws. His longest pass of the day was a 29-yard pass across the middle of the field to Ja'Lynn Polk. More importantly, Maye controlled the pocket, escaped pressure when needed and also made some throws on the run – two of which were nullified by penalties. The performance caps an impressive first preseason in which Maye has shown his chances to start in Week 1 against the Bengals, though Brissett is still likely the favorite if he proves healthy.
