Rumor: Cancelled Crash Bandicoot 5 could have included a playable Spyro

Crash Bandicoot 4, it's time

Reports earlier this year claimed that Activision had at one point quietly cancelled Crash Bandicoot 5that was in the works at Toys for Bob, and now more details about the shelved platform game have apparently surfaced.

In a recently published video, YouTube channel DidYouKnowGaming claims that after the release of Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About TimeA small team from the developer Toys for Bob began working on ideas for the next main single-player installment in the series.

Supposedly, the game was only worked on for a few months before Activision decided to put the project on hold and focus on live service titles instead. It is claimed that the less than stellar sales figures for Crash 4 were also responsible for this decision. Official sales figures for the game were never announced, although reports earlier this year claimed it had sold over 5 million units.

The video further claims that one of the concepts proposed for Crash Bandicoot 5 would have seen Spyro the Dragon as the second main character in the game. Toys for Bob previously developed Spyro Reignited Trilogyand in this alleged pitch, the character's world would have collided with Crash's and the two would have teamed up to fight an interdimensional threat.

Other ideas in these early stages of pre-production also included a school setting for young villains, the return of antagonists from previous installments, and more. Concept art for the canceled project is also shown in the video. You can watch it in full below.

Toys for Bob split from Activision and new parent company Microsoft this year. Although the studio is now independent, it was confirmed in May that Xbox will also act as publisher for the next game. The game in question is reportedly Spyro4whose active development allegedly only began in January.
