Sexual assault in Badlapur: Kalyan court sends accused to 14 days’ custody

The court in Kalyan, Maharashtra, remanded the accused in the Badlapur sexual assault case to 14 days' judicial custody on Monday, August 26. Akshay Shinde, the main accused, was remanded to police custody till August 24. After the expiry of this period, he was again produced before the court where the judge ordered an extension of his judicial custody. Shinde has now been remanded to judicial custody till September 9.

Shinde is accused of sexually assaulting two minor schoolgirls in Badlapur in Thane district. After his arrest, he was first produced before a welfare court and then before the Kalyan court where his police custody was extended. The court comprising Justice VA Patravale held the hearing and now, after the expiration of his police custody, Shinde has been remanded in judicial custody.

Besides Akshay Shinde, the president, principal and secretary of the school were also arrested in this case. The police had asked for Shinde's remand and sought an extension of the POCSO Act. A case has been filed against the principal, president and secretary of the school.
