Despite Bangladesh’s victory, Shakib’s problems are mounting

Rawalpindi, Aug 26: Despite political unrest and violence at home, Bangladesh made history with their first Test win against Pakistan on Sunday. The visitors defeated the impressive hosts by 10 wickets on the final day of the first Test.

However, experienced Shakib Al Hasan, who took three key Pakistani wickets in the Test, seems to be in trouble. Shakib is in danger as a murder case has been filed against him in Bangladesh amid the recent unrest and violence in the Asian country.

But his captain Najmul Hossain Shanto praised the experienced all-rounder for putting aside all personal tensions and contributing his part to their historic first Test win against Pakistan on Pakistani soil.

But according to media reports back home, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will decide on Shakib's future after receiving a legal notice demanding his immediate suspension from all cricket following a murder complaint.

According to reports, lawyers of Rafiqul Islam, father of textile factory worker Rubel, who was killed in Dhaka's Adabor on August 5, have written to the BCB demanding Shakib's immediate suspension from all forms of cricket.

Shakib was named in an FIR along with 146 others during the unrest in Bangladesh earlier this month that led to the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

During the Test match, Shakib was also reprimanded by the on-field umpires for throwing the ball at Pakistan batsman Mohd Rizwan when the latter waited too long to take the strike while batting, which frustrated the Bangladesh all-rounder. This was certainly a little unprofessional and unexpected behaviour from a seasoned professional and former captain of the national team, the experts noted, lamenting Shakib's behaviour.
