Radiologist arrested in India for suspected terrorist attack

A radiologist in India has been arrested as a suspected key operative of an emerging Al-Qaeda-inspired terrorist group, according to an article by The Times of India.

Indian intelligence agents arrested Ishtiyaq Ahmed along with 14 other suspects in multiple raids on August 22 for their alleged role in a group known as “al-Qaeda in the Indian subcontinent,” the article said. The group allegedly operated a training camp in a forest area in northwestern India and was “prepared to carry out terrorist attacks,” the article said.

“The module sought to declare caliphate and carry out serious terrorist activities in the country,” a statement from Delhi Police said in the article.

Other news reports state: Organizer Weekly reported that Ishtiyaq was a graduate of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, a government medical college in Ranchi in Jharkhand state. He owned a clinic in nearby Hazaribagh, where he allegedly recruited people to join the group, the report said.

New Delhi Satyaagrah said that Ishtiyaq had been operating in the area for six years and included videos of local authorities talking about the arrests in his report.
