“I made a serious mistake”

BTS rapper Suga has released a second official apology following his drunken incident earlier this month when he was reported by police for driving an electric scooter while under the influence.

The K-pop star was arrested by South Korean police earlier this month for violating traffic laws. Following his indictment, both BTS's label Big Hit Music and Suga issued official statements and apologized to fans for the incident. According to a statement from his company, Suga's driver's license was revoked and he was fined. “No one was injured and no property damage was caused by the incident. He was taken home in police custody,” it said.

On August 25, Suga posted a handwritten apology on fan community platform Weverse, two days after he was interrogated by police at the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul. “It is with feelings of shame that I apologize to all of you once again. I deeply apologize for disappointing and hurting my fans and everyone who loves me through my transgressions,” he wrote in the translation of Soompi.

“I forgot that I have to repay the love I have received so far by behaving in accordance with that love, and I made a grave mistake,” he added. “Because of my negligence, everyone who cares about me is going through a difficult time. I will reflect for the rest of my life and strive not to commit such transgressions again.”

BTS' Suga also wrote that he felt he had “left a huge stain on the precious memories I created with my members and our fans, and I have tarnished BTS' name.” He added that he was “painfully sorry” for causing harm to the BTS members, who he said are “suffering” due to his actions.

“I will not only accept the disciplinary measures that are decided [by the authorities] in the future, but also any criticism or reprimand. Finally, I once again bow my head and sincerely apologize for causing controversy and disappointing many people,” Suga concluded.

His appearance at the Yongsan Police Station last week was the first time he has been summoned for questioning about the case since the incident, and the investigation is currently ongoing.
