Famous girl group cancels concerts after member's health problems

SYRACUSE, New York — The band TLC canceled its concert in Syracuse on Friday after one of its members was hospitalized due to a sudden illness.

A statement posted on social media said Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins was diagnosed with severe abdominal obstruction. The statement said Watkins went to the hospital after struggling with “severe nausea, vomiting and severe abdominal cramps.”

Watkins, 54, later posted on social media that she was “on the mend.”

“This was just one of those unexpected things that I had no control over,” Watkins wrote on Instagram. “I look forward to making it up to you all… and hopefully I'll be out of the hospital soon!!!”

The incident forced TLC to cancel shows at the New York State Fair in Syracuse and at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut. The group plans to reschedule the shows.

In May, TLC canceled shows in New Brunswick and Ontario, Canada, after tour members came down with the flu.

TLC enjoyed tremendous success in the early 1990s with four No. 1 singles and nine Top 10 hits. They have reportedly sold 65 million records worldwide, making them the best-selling American girl group of all time.

Watkins is currently touring with founding member Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas. The third founding member, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, died in a car accident in Honduras in 2002.
