Defendant claims innocence in lie detector test, contradicting earlier confession

Sanjoy Roy, the prime suspect in the rape and murder of a student doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has made a chilling claim during a recent lie detector test. According to sources cited by the Times of India, Roy claimed that the victim was already dead when he entered the seminar hall where her body was discovered.

This statement is in stark contrast to Roy's initial confession to the Calcutta police, in which he allegedly admitted to the crime. The lie detector test reportedly showed several of Roy's answers as incorrect or unconvincing, with the accused appearing visibly nervous during the test.

When the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) presented various pieces of evidence, Roy offered several alibis and protested his innocence, a stance he has recently adopted despite his earlier confession. He told polygraph examiners that he fled the crime scene out of fear when he discovered the body.

However, investigators have pointed to significant inconsistencies in Roy's testimony. They point out that he cannot explain facial injuries or his presence at the crime scene, which was captured on security camera footage. Evidence, including a Bluetooth headset found at the scene, also links Roy to the incident.

The victim, a doctor, was found dead in the hospital's seminar room on August 9. An autopsy revealed signs of sexual violence and numerous injuries. Roy's psychoanalytic profile, which was compiled as part of the investigation, described him as a “severe pornography addict pervert” with “animalistic instincts.”

As the investigation continues, the CBI is trying to reconcile Roy's contradictory statements with the evidence at hand. The case has attracted considerable public attention and raised concerns about security in medical facilities and the reliability of the suspects' statements.
