New York Giants defender suffers serious injury shortly before roster cuts

New York Giants defensive tackle Timmy Horne suffered a serious injury during the team’s final preseason game against the New York Jets.

Horne was part of the first wave of roster cuts on Sunday after it was announced that he tore his Achilles tendon during the season finale, sustaining the injury on the first play of the game.

The former undrafted free agent was released due to injury, meaning he could return to the team's reserve/injured list if he meets waiver rules.

The Giants signed Horne from the Atlanta Falcons' practice squad during the 2023 regular season. He appeared in one game.

The emergence of undrafted free agent rookie Elijah Chatman would have made it difficult for Horne to make the initial 53-man roster, but the former was a candidate for the practice squad.

However, due to the brutal nature of a torn Achilles tendon, Horne's season is likely over unless he makes a surprisingly quick recovery.

The Giants have until Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET to make the necessary changes to the initial 53-man roster.
