Deadly shooting at Berkeley homeless shelter

Berkeley police have begun investigating a shooting at a homeless shelter that left one person dead Sunday night.

The shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Seventh and Harrison Streets.

Officers found a victim with gunshot wounds at Harrison House, a homeless shelter in the 700 block of Harrison Street. Police said the shooter had already fled.

“When they found the victim, they began life-saving measures. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” said Berkeley police officer Kajahna Futch.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released. Police said it is currently unclear what led to the shooting and there are currently no suspects.
