Angelo Delgado is accused of killing Sunil Edla during a car theft in Ventnor

MAYS LANDING – An Atlantic City man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for a fatal carjacking he committed when he was 16 years old.

Angelo Delgado, now 22, is accused of shooting a Ventnor man, 61-year-old Sunil Edla, in November 2018 while stealing the victim's car, according to the Atlantic County District Attorney's Office.

According to a prosecutor's report, police responding to a 911 call found Edla dead in a driveway on North Nashville Drive in Ventnor.

Edla's car was found in the 1600 block of Sewell Street in Atlantic City. Delgado was arrested there the day after the shooting.

Delgado, who was acquitted in juvenile court, was initially charged with murder, car theft, robbery and weapons possession.

On August 22, he pleaded guilty to premeditated murder, which is killing in the commission of a crime.

During the hearing, Delgado admitted to shooting Edla in an attempt to steal his car, prosecutors said.

As part of a plea agreement, he faces a prison sentence of 30 years without the possibility of parole.

The verdict is scheduled for September.
