Pittsburgh Steelers release eight players in first round of roster cuts

With the NFL preseason coming to a close and the Pittsburgh Steelers' season beginning in Atlanta in less than two weeks, Pittsburgh has begun trimming its roster to 53 by cutting the following eight players:

  • DB Kiondre Thomas
  • DL Marquis Spencer
  • LB Kyahva Tezino
  • OL Tyler Beach
  • OT Devery Hamilton
  • RB Daijun Edwards
  • WR Jacob Copeland
  • WR TJ Luther

Hamilton had a poor performance against the Detroit Lions, so his release wasn't too much of a surprise. Edwards was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia and had a solid game against Houston earlier in the preseason, scoring a touchdown and averaging over nine yards per carry.

Thomas appeared in one game with the Green Bay Packers in 2023. Spencer bounced between practice squads and hasn't appeared in a regular season game since 2021. Tezino was released by the San Francisco 49ers around this time last year. The same was true of Tyler Beach when he was in Houston last year. Copeland was on the practice squad until December last year, when he was released and signed by the Chiefs. Kansas City released him in May, and the Steelers signed him in June. Luther signed with the Patriots and was signed to the practice squad last November before being released in June and signed by Pittsburgh on Aug. 14.

There will be further cuts and we will keep you updated on all the latest changes to the squad.
