Sunday's women's soccer game between Rutgers University and the University of Massachusetts briefly descended into chaos when two players got into a fight.

In the 55th minute of the second half, Rutgers striker Gia Girman was fouled during a tackle attempt. While Girman was lying on the ground, Ashley Lamond attempted to take the ball out from under her to put it back in play. Girman appeared to take exception to the maneuver, and when she got up, the two players were facing each other. Suddenly Girman struck, and the two players fell to the ground. Teammates from both sides ran to break up the scuffle.

Girman and Lamond both received red cards and were sent off, leaving their teams to finish the game with ten players on each side.

According to a report by WCVB BostonA Rutgers spokesman said the university was aware of the dispute. No further comment was made.
